Powerboat & Motor Cruising courses

We run courses for leisure and commercial clients throughout the year from our base in Poole and across the world on our clients own craft. We run the full range of courses such as Powerboat Level 2, Advanced Powerboat, Dayskipper Practical and we also prepare lots of candidates each year for their commercial examinations. Additionally, we run Instructor courses for each of the schemes.

This mobile website cannot carry the wealth of information that we provide on our main site so here we just summarise a few of the key courses. Follow these links to the relevant sections on our main site:

What is the difference between Motor Cruising Courses and Powerboat Courses?

The RYA divides the courses for powered craft into two schemes. Historically smaller faster powerboats fell into the Powerboat scheme whereas larger cruising craft were dealt with within the Motor Cruising scheme. The development of family cruisers and fast fishers has massively blurred things and in all honesty the key thing is that we find you the course from either scheme that suits your needs. As a generalisation, if your boat is up to 10m/33ft consider courses in the Powerboat scheme whereas if it it is larger then it is probably the Motor Cruising scheme that will suit. As mentioned though we will chat this through with you.

Our most popular courses are:

RYA Powerboat Level 2 (Leading to the ICC < 10m) - 300 pounds inc VAT

Runs every week and at peak times we will run two or three Level 2 courses each week - weekdays and weekends. On your craft we can run the course at any time.

This is the RYA's most successful and popular course. Irrespective of your existing knowledge (you don't need any!) the Level 2 course develops your boat handling and basic navigation skills so that you can go out and safely enjoy your time afloat. It is aimed at those boating close to their home base. Children as young as 12 can attend this course too.

RYA Dayskipper Practical (Leading to the ICC <24m)  - 780 pounds inc VAT

Runs every few weeks on our craft. On your craft we can run the course at any time.

An excellent course that like Level 2 develops the basic boat handling and navigation skills yet it then takes it on to the next stage and develops the capability and skills for coastal navigation. The course also includes a basic introduction to night navigation.
